A BELIEVER IN THE GOOD OF NATIONS
Oby Ezekwesili vowed to “disrupt the politics of failure” of the Nigerian government during her presidential campaign, and her withdrawal from the February 2019 race doesn’t diminish that promise. Nor does it erase the transformative work she’s done to protect young African girls; she’s been a fierce protector of youth, often putting her own safety on the line to buck against the system.
Dedicating her life to bringing back the 300 Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 (#BringBackOurGirls), Ezekwesili is a respected and active voice for the country and has co-founded initiatives such as the Transparency International, a global watchdog group that fights against corruption on the continent. With a Nobel Peace Prize nomination to add to her accolades, Ezekwesili won’t be slowing down any time soon, and her political smarts and earnest efforts are welcomed as she serves as an inspiration to young girls around Nigeria and beyond.
