Claude Lavie Kameni
When stopping mid-scroll to take in an Instagram post of Tracee Ellis Ross dripping in designer, especially when she’s decked out in one of Claude Lavie Kameni’s originals, it’s easy to consider throwing away your entire wardrobe to replace it with her colorful creations. The Cameroonian designer has outfitted the likes of Ross, Janet Jackson and other A-list celebs in Lavie By CK, a brand that delicately and skillfully manipulates wax-print fabric to reflect bold, high-fashion silhouettes.
The fashion bug latched on to the 21-year-old artist early; she fell in love with design during a fashion course her junior year of high school, rushing home to create a business plan for her brand. Through her visual artwork prominently placed on both celebrities and everyday people, Kameni hopes the industry will inch closer to becoming more inclusive. "I wanted my collection to be worn by all different types of models," she tells OkayAfrica. But most importantly, she wants Lavie By CK to pave the way “for younger African designers to thrive.”
